Introducing Ottiam Group

For The Ottiam Group, the move is about keeping the brand and standards exactly as they are, while strengthening the engine behind it. Less time in admin. More time in strategy, service, and execution.
“I have always been drawn to real estate because it combines strategy, creativity and people,” Blake Gierke explains. “I love that every property tells a different story. No two campaigns are the same, and I enjoy crafting a tailored approach that brings out the best in each home and delivers a strong result for the owner.”
With 11 years in the industry and four years’ operating The Ottiam Group, Blake has built the business around personalised campaigns, strong relationships, and outcomes that help people move forward. Real estate is often tied to major life moments, and being trusted to guide clients through that process is something he approaches with care and responsibility.
As a business owner, Blake enjoys shaping direction and continuously improving how the business operates, with a focus on delivering better client outcomes and building a team and culture people are proud to be part of.
“I love building a team and culture that people are proud to be part of,” Blake says. “Watching others grow, take ownership and succeed alongside me is incredibly rewarding. There is a real sense of responsibility, but also freedom. The opportunity to innovate, adapt and lead with purpose is what makes it so fulfilling.”
Joining URBAN X supports that focus, without compromising independence or identity.
Blake says the partnership has also helped sharpen the way the business operates day to day, from systems to commercial discipline, strengthening his approach to performance and margins.
One of the biggest challenges in the role remains managing expectations, particularly in an emotional market where buyers and sellers are often navigating significant life changes. For Blake, that means staying calm, communicating clearly, and guiding people through uncertainty while keeping the process steady.
The decision to build The Ottiam Group originally came from a desire to do things properly and build a business centred on strategy, service and long-term relationships.
“I wanted the freedom to do things properly. I saw an opportunity to build a business that focused on strategy, service and long term relationships rather than quick transactions. I believed there was room to raise the standard and create a more tailored, client first approach.”
His advice to other agents considering ownership is practical and grounded. Be clear on why you’re doing it, understand your numbers, and commit fully - the long-term payoff comes from consistency, responsibility, and a willingness to keep learning.
“Be clear on your why. Understand your numbers. Cash flow, margins and overheads matter just as much as listings and sales. Back yourself, but stay coachable. Most importantly, commit fully… If you are prepared to lead, innovate and take responsibility, it can be incredibly rewarding.”
