For Mark, real estate has always been about people first. “Real estate would be dull without all the great people you get to meet along the way. I have made some great long-lasting friendships with clients as I have gotten to know them during the buying or selling process. Even after 16 years in the industry, it is not lost on me what an honour it is to have someone entrust me with selling their property. I take that responsibility seriously but like to have a bit of fun along the way,” he says.
Mark began his real estate journey in 2009, gaining invaluable experience from the outset. “Quite a few of my early years were learning the ropes in a tough declining market here on the coast. This is something many of my more junior newcomers to the industry have never experienced, and I feel this helps give a much more well-rounded toolkit when dealing with any market or situation we may have thrown at us.”
Before stepping into real estate, Mark worked in investment banking in London for several years. “I still take an avid interest in financial markets, and this side of my knowledge base does help when dealing with certain clients and situations,” he says.
That combination of local knowledge and financial acumen has become a strong foundation for Deegan and Co., but what truly sets Mark apart is his straightforward approach. “Some of the competitors out there are willing to stretch the truth or bend the rules to win competition. I am a complete straight shooter professionally and privately… what you see is what you get!” Mark mentions.
For Mark, the decision to branch out felt natural. “I had thought about it but never seriously got close to pulling the trigger. When I looked into it again recently, it just felt right. When you know, you know. I haven’t doubted the decision once.”
That leap of faith led to the creation of Deegan and Co. A family business run alongside his wife, built on professionalism, approachability, and strong community ties.

Looking ahead, Mark is eager to see his first sign go up and begin building a legacy in the community he calls home.
His advice to other agents thinking about starting their own business is simple: “Go with the gut and don’t put it off for fear of failure. Don’t die wondering. We only get one shot at life… there is no rerun. That’s what I told myself.”
